The White House has escalated its economic pressure campaign against Iran, threatening to impose sanctions on any country that continues to trade with the Islamic Republic. The move comes as US military efforts in the region show signs of faltering, according to a report from The Guardian.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled the initiative under the name “Operation Economic Outcast,” comparing its significance to the D-Day landings during World War II. The operation is designed to further isolate Iran economically on the global stage.

China, identified as Iran’s largest trading partner, has already signalled that it will not cooperate with Washington’s attack on the Iranian economy. This defiance could undermine the effectiveness of the new sanctions push, as Beijing remains a key economic lifeline for Tehran.

The assessment was shared by Julian Borger, senior international correspondent for The Guardian, during a discussion on the latest developments in the standoff between Washington and Tehran.
