Leading European clubs issued an ultimatum to FIFA, warning they would not take part in future Club World Cups unless president Gianni Infantino scrapped his Forward Enterprise scheme. The warning was delivered just hours before the project was abandoned, according to reports.
In a letter to FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström, the influential European Football Clubs (EFC) group said its cooperation with future tournaments depended on Infantino backing down. The threat would remain in force unless a previously agreed joint venture between EFC and FIFA is completed before television rights are sold for the 2028 Women’s Club World Cup.
