An American missionary abducted in Niger’s capital has been released after approximately nine months in captivity, according to the Christian organization that supports him. The group, SIM International, said in a statement that Kevin Rideout is in good health and currently in the care of U.S. officials. He is expected to be reunited with his extended family soon.
Rideout was seized by unknown assailants in Niamey in October, the organization reported. The statement did not say who carried out the abduction or provide details of his release, but confirmed he was safe and receiving assistance from American authorities.
